What Would JB Do? [James Brown, Chicago Mail & Obama's Pastor]
Sound track: It's a Man's World... I was practically baptized in James Brown's sweat. One of his concerts was the first I ever attended as a child. If I close my eyes, I can still see him on-stage, down on his knees. That's when Maceo, I believe, ran over with Brown's legendary black cape, "sympathetically" draping it across his back.
But the Godfather don't need no cape! Brother James leaps up and makes a show of tossing it -- and Maceo's feigned assistance. Then The Man spins 'round on this shiny, black shoes and makes like a scissor: Bam, he does a fast split and hits the floor.

Sound track: Super Bad... This I have personally known for a very long time... Thank you, Chicago Sun-Times, for just confirming it. In Chicago, mail delivery has gotten so bad that our in-town, overnight delivery ranks the worst in the nation. Apparently, these are equal opportunity mail delays and losses that have even zapped elected officials:An informal survey of Chicago aldermen showed mail delivery woes affected people living in 38 of Chicago's 50 wards. In fact, several aldermen have had mail trouble themselves. Southwest Side Ald. Edward Burke (14th) said a check his daughter mailed to him from her West Loop home arrived two months after it was postmarked.
Yup, weird mail stuff has happened to me more times than normal, too. Makes me want to forward this link to someone who insisted on "snail mailing" me thick documents -- only for these important materials to get lost in space a while first.

Sound track: The Big Payback... According to Mary Mitchell at Chicago Sun-Times, Barack Obama and his pastor, Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, are experiencing bumps in their relationship lately. Actually, it sounds ugly, starting with Obama's decision to disinvite the reverend from a role at his campaign announcement. Not a good look on Obama's part, but an understandable one.
After Obama's "tit" above, Rev. Wright dropped this "tat" among the morsels he gave Mitchell during his interview about being slighted at the Springfield event. And I quote:

"When [Obama's] enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli to visit Moammar
Gadhafi -- with [Louis] Farrakhan -- a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell."
Ouch. That was a holy hand-slapping if ever there was one. Easy to see where this is going.
Meanwhile Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes invited Rev. Wright to talk about Trinity, which certain people at Fox have hyped as a separatist movement, similar to the Branch Dividians. Which is ridiculous. I've enjoyed church service at Trinity many times and can tell you that Fox is fairly imbalanced. Or something like that.

In any case, get a load of the contentious transcript from Rev. Wright's interview with Sean Hannity. For more on this and other Obama news, check Barack Oblogga, which does a fine job of cycling the daily grist on "O."

Oohhh this is good stuff.
I love the haunting melody and lyrics of "It's a Man's World," too.
And the Barack stuff!
Wow!
Not good for a man to be on the outs with his own spiritual leader.
Wonder where this will end?
Thanks for hipping me to the new Barack blog,
Paula
Paula,
It's a mess from whichever angle you look at it...
-- Fox News is trying to paint one of the largest, most respected black churches almost as a cult. Believe me, all those Trinity members driving Jaguars and whatnot are nowhere near a cult mentality.
-- I'm very disappointed that Rev. Wright said that stuff about Kaddafi and how money would stop flowing to Obama. That was a nasty set-up to create yet another media storm for Obama...
-- So Obama really must have done the Rev. wrong, to make him strike out this way. Obama must have been mighty shady in how the "disinviting" went down. Rev. must be thinking that Obama has gotten too big for his britches.
But all of that aside, could the Rev's 1984 trip have that great an impact on Obama in 2008? It's not like Obama himself hung out with Kaddafi and Farrakhan.
James Brown - The Instrumental Years. 2 disk set. Some of the best music ever made.
Barack 'Oblogga' -- that's funny as hell. LOL
Jason, I was just at my favorite music store yesterday. Wish I'd already read your mention of JB - The Instrumental Years. I don't have that one and it sounds killer!
Hey darling!
Aha and then they wonder why we opt for electronic mail these days! snail mail is just getting more expensive and inefficient every day here in Belgium as well!
mouaaaaah
Let me know what you think if you find it. It is the definition of funk in my mind.
I was able to see James Brown for the last time in Washington Park the Chi. This was about four years ago and he was still moving better than any older man I know.
